John Steele is a classically trained lyric tenor with a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Saskatchewan. His repertoire includes works from French, Italian, German and Polish opera, English and German oratorio, German and Russian art songs and contemporary Christian and popular music.
He has performed leading roles with the Saskatoon Opera Association (Donizetti’s The Night Bell), Saskatoon Gateway Players (Strouse’s Charlie and Algernon) and Prairie Opera (Strauss’ Die Fledermaus and Barab’s Only a Miracle). John was a featured soloist with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra in The Best of Broadway, with Prairie Consort in Bach’s Magnificat in D and in Kingston with Divine Voices choir.
In Ottawa, John has twice performed Schumann’s Dichterliebe with more contemporary songs in St. Luke’s recital series and recently performed in concerts at Notre Dame Basilica, St. Hyacinth Church, the Embassy of Poland, Trinity Anglican Church and in the North Grenville Concert Choir’s 2022 and 2024 Messiah productions with Ottawa's Divertimento Orchestra, under Maestro Gordon Slater.
